Why should I hire a Professional Organizer?
For many people the task of organizing a space is so overwhelming that they don’t know where to begin. For others they can get started, but once they are into the project they get stuck. A Professional Organizer will help you overcome these challenges.
How long will it take?
Every project is different, so it will be important that we discuss your individual needs. As a general rule, papers and offices take longer than bedrooms and closet since papers take up less space, yet there is more to go through. Some projects may only require a couple of hours, and for others it is a process that we work on a regular basis over a period of time. During your Free In-Home Consulation we will be able to establish a timeframe that meets your needs and stays within your budget.
Should I buy anything before you come?
No. The biggest mistake people make is buying things before they begin organizing. When you buy before you organize you have to make that product work for a space whose potential you have not yet discovered. When you organize before you buy, you can purchase what will truly work for your space. You will often find that what you thought you needed before you organize is far different then what is required after the organizing is finished.
What is the difference between organizing and decluttering?
Decluttering is the process of going through what you have and letting those things go that you no longer use, and keeping those things that you use and need in your life. Organizing is the process of finding a place for everything that you want to keep. Many times this involves creating a system to keep the space organized.
Will you make me throw things away?
No. I will help you find a place to put everything that you want to keep. Throughout this process you will choose what you let go. You are the one who is in charge of what you throw away. I am there to help you make the decisions, but the ultimate decision will be yours.
Is it normal for me to be so nervous about the first session?
Absolutely! Most people are very nervous, and I will work to make your session as comfortable and pleasant as possible. Going through your belongings is going to be hard. Organizing and purging is not an easy process. It can also be a very emotional process, as you are going to be looking at things that you might not have looked at or thought about for a very long time.
How do I know that we will work well together?
That is the reason for the free consultation. I offer a Free Phone or In-Home Consultation. This is an opportunity to get to know each other, talk about the project, and see if it is a good fit. It is a good idea to write down any questions that you have about the project or my services before we meet so I can answer those questions for you at the consultation.
How do you charge?
I charge by the session. A typical session is 4 or 8 hours. Experience has shown that it is hard to thoroughly go through the process in less than 4 hours. Taking things out, sorting, decluttering and putting away takes time. The shorter the session, the less time you have to work on the project before it is time to clean up. After about 4 hours most people need a break. If you decide to go with an eight hour session, then a lunch break is taken, and we will begin again after we have had some time to step away from the process.
Do you work with me or just tell me what I should do?
I specialize in working hands-on with you to organize your space and create order. After the session I will email you any suggestions or things that I would recommend that you buy based of my collective notes.
Will I need to buy lots of expensive organizing tools?
Most of the time we can use things that you have in your home. When I recommend products I will give you different choices depending on how much you want to spend.
